WHAT LENS DO YOU SEE THE WORLD THROUGH?

​LENS OF CIRCUMSTANCES
Many people see the world from the lens of their neighborhood, their bank account, their education level, their marital status and even their sexual preferences. The lens dictates to them who can be friends, where they can do business, where they can eat lunch, who they should vote for. This lens tends to make predetermined judgements for them. How they see the world, interact with the world, see themselves and choose to believe or behave is driven by this lens.

LENS OF SITUATION (MOMENT BY MOMENT)
Along side the lens of circumstances is the lens of situation. This is a lens that would give the impression that every second can alter the way we should accept, deny, resist, or participate with the world. This lens tells us, if the other person or group is behaving in a way which makes us feel good, we should respond in kind. This lens has little or no anchor in the foundational truths of life. This lens has not been informed by history, just by feelings or emotional responses.

LENS OF PERSONALITY TYPE
Many people are unwilling to admit the truth that we all have differing personality types or characters and they are as individual as our finger prints and yet, the similarities at a macro level are uncanny. These types are not determined by skin color, ethnicity or place of birth. They can however, be provoked or enhanced by all of the above. The way we see, accept or deny the world we live in will be impacted by the personality type we were born with because it is braided in the very DNA of our being. This TYPE may well see commonalities impacted by culture, geography and religious upbringing. Types may also vary slightly throughout someone's life based events (situations) which impact how they think and feel in the future. 

​But most studies reveal the TYPE will hold firm and the coping choices for dealing with trauma, applying new lessons learned, moving on after a disastrous relationship will be exposed and modified in accordance with the type. It is therefore very important to KNOW YOUR TYPE as well as your proclivities and avoidances.

LENS OF LEADERSHIP
Leaders should be competent at reading the lens of those they lead. The desires, motivations, reactions, comfort levels, learning styles, and more can be nearly predictable when a leader knows the types of people on their team. Whether that team member will remain silent when they have the best answer or speak up when they have no clue is predictable by TYPE. Whether they prefer to be called on, want to do more research first, give sacrificially to the rest of the team, demand the bulk of emotional attention or suck the energy out of every room they walk into are all TYPE indicated long before they happen.

Leaders who get to know their team by connecting and listening can usually determine the types of people they lead. It takes time, compassion and effort but the pay off is enormous.
