LEAD WITH A CLEAR NOTION OF WHO If you know who you are, how you act will stem from that awareness. The words you choose to use, the places you go, the people you hang out with, the books you read will all be influenced by the WHO you recognize in the mirror. I know this seems too simple a concept to be a leadership teaching. If you have not recognized the attack on identity from sexuality to culture to race to political party to faith then you are possibly living under a rock. Lead by first being led. I am a believer in inspiration in the truest form. Not imagination but inspiration. I firmly believe the Spirit of the Living God will speak directly to us and impart His Spirit in us to accomplish a greater purpose. I also believe His purpose is include of every human on earth. Every human of every generation, age and culture has a role in the purpose of God. <p style="text-align: left;">If I am right, then the purpose for which you were created is established and clear in the mind of God. LEAD WITH FRIENDLINESS It’s hard to be pleasant in unpleasant circumstances. It’s hard to be pleasant with unpleasant people. It’s nearly impossible to be pleasant when you find yourself in a difficult circumstance with difficult people. However, the cliche carries some weight: “Its easier to catch flies with honey than with vinegar.” When leaders choose to maintain control of their mood, their attitude and their demeanor without regard for the situation and circumstances their level of influence and impact grows exponentially. You cannot control the circumstance, you can control how you react to them. LEAD WITH THE COURAGE TO BE REAL How hard do you work to hide your imperfections? Do you use make up to cover up the blemishes? I have done all of these at some point in my life. I make an honest and intentional effort to redirect my focus and behavior when I become aware of it now. Being real is not easy. LEAD WITH POSITIVE ENERGY It is my experience that creating energy from nothing is very difficult if not impossible. As an MC, DJ or Motivational Speaker, I find a flat room to be hard to energize without some serious intention and effort. Some people will use bright lights, loud music and a ton of dancing and clapping. Sometimes that works. Sometimes it conjures or stirs up emotional energy which really isn’t inline with the remainder of the day, the lesson or the intention of the event. Take a wedding for example, there is one basic reason people attend a wedding, they love the couple. Take the couple out of the equation and trying to “create a party atmosphere” will be very different, especially without alcohol. In your life, your business, your sales calls, your “chance meetings” you are the source of energy. If you don’t bring it, don’t expect it to be there. If you bring it and it’s negative, don’t expect much else.
