Many things have changed since I was a fifth grader. Some good, some great some mind boggling. I don’t remember THIS ever happening when I was in 5th grade. What’s stopping you?
If you want to move forward toward your goals and dreams you must let go of the past and use today’s troubles as a spring board or stepping stone to reach up. There will never be another you. Only you can live like you, laugh like you, love like you. You are the best you ever made. Live like it is true because it is! https://www.jlorennorris.com/live.html Self esteem, self love, self confidence - what’s the difference and when does it become self destruction?
It’s hard for me to present this leadership lesson without my personal faith being a part of it. The reason is simple. In my opinion, experience and research, the person who best exemplifies a perfected model human was Jesus of Nazareth. He was balanced in his compassion and authority. He loved everyone He encountered. He gave generously of His time and received graciously from others. He knew what authority He must submit to vs which authority to surrender to vs which authority to resist and challenge. He had a healthy view of himself in context to others and to the Creator of the Universe. Leaders become narcissistic tyrants when they see themselves as the wish to be and must “lower” others to achieve that status. This “self love practice” can be very dangerous for long term growth and will adversely effect those you lead. Photo by Alex Michaelsen on Unsplash Personal responsibility is the only attitude strong enough to counter entitlement. Yesterday evening I had the chance to be the proverbial “fly on the wall” in a town hall styled meeting for movers and shakers in a particular political cycle within the African American community. Consistently I heard things like:
As one of a very small handful of Caucasians in the room, I can tell you it was a privilege, and honor and a great encouragement to be surrounded by so many passionate, educated, influential and vocal leaders within the black community. It was invigorating to see them act and hear them with strategic plans which have phenomenal power to transform the community we share. I am excited to see all the good as this “Who Really Cares” campaign continues to grow. Leaders should get involved in movements which bring power, freedom, healing and hope to their communities, regardless who is leading the charge. “The philosophy of the classroom in this generation will be the philosophy of the government in the next.” Who said and what impact will it have on you if it’s true? The quote is most commonly attributed to Thomas Jefferson. The impact it will have on you is significant. Look at New Zealand - in one weeks time their right to bear arms has gone from nonnegotiable to nonexistent. I recently heard a decorated war veterans words which were chilling to the core. He said something to the effect of, “Unless you have a son or daughter currently serving in combat - America is NOT AT WAR - it’s at the mall.” Augmented reality is not just a description of video games. Many young people today live in a “world devoid of reality.” They have notions and perspectives handed to them by social elitists which have been intentionally driven by social and political agendas. Just watch the video clip of “Ami on the streets” regarding voter ID laws. The replies are degrading, racists, narrow minded and bigoted at best - sadly, they are the IDEAS WHICH SUPPORT ABOLISHING VOTER ID REQUIREMENTS. Leaders must be aware of the notions of those they lead. Reinforce truth and legacy in daily conversation. https://www.facebook.com/FoxNewsDigitalOriginals/videos/1222293457831808/ “Be a river, not a reservoir!” JOHN MAXWELL How does that apply to YOU and YOUR LEADERSHIP?
If you have sufficient resources to survive, you have enough to share. This applies to time, talent, treasure and attention. Don’t think writing a check or making a financial donation is the end of your societal obligation. Watch the video for more... What if you could help? But didn’t? What if a brief conversation from you could save a life? Would it be worth your time? We all spend a large portion of our time staring at our digital devices... just like you are now. Ironic. We spend too many hours in traffic, on our phones, or at work to really notice the people around us. My challenge for you as a leader and influencer is to take some time each day the rest of this week to just be a noticer. When you’re in the coffee shop, put your phone or book down for a moment and check our the faces and expressions of the people around you. Ask yourself “what might they be in need of which I could give?” Not that you have to do anything right away, I just want you to become more aware of others needs and your opportunities. Photo by Julian Howard on Unsplash Leaders who care enough for people around them to correct them demonstrate love on a level few people experience. Let me say that another way. If you have Leaders around you, who say nothing when you make a mistake, either you have not given them room to love (you’re not teachable) or they are operating without love in their leadership. If you care, correct. Not criticism. Not complaining. Not condemning. Correction. Point out the error, offer a better solution, leave room for adjustment. Photo by NESA by Makers on Unsplash Perspective is significant! Perception is everything! When leaders talk about other people, their descriptions, depictions and definitions often set the frame work others view them through. The difference between a house facing the east versus facing the west is how long the sun shines the window and how hot it is. The difference between people shining a light one way versus the other can have a similar effect. Longer shadows versus highlights and hot spots can make all the difference in the world. Make an effort to be grace-filled when shining the light toward others. Put them in a fair light by accenting their best features and not their worst. Trust me, this practice changes how others view you as well. Photo by Soroush golpoor on Unsplash READ. READ. READ. IT WILL SHAPE THE WHO THAT YOU ARE! I don’t just write books to sell them. I write books because I know the value of reading. Because I read a lot before I write. 5 years from now you will become who you are based on two things - watch the video to discover what they are. Photo by James Barker on Unsplash Pride goes before a fall? Is that like the chicken and egg quandary? Which one caused the other? Pride is a destructive force. Pride causes blind spots, nearsightedness and deafness. When pride creeps in, it almost always brings arrogance. Now the person eaten up with pride is also fully convinced the problem is everyone else. This leads to isolation which hastens defeat. Soon there is no one left to defend your ideas, positions and work so every mistake is magnified and highlighted. The worst part is this. Pride causes blind spots, nearsightedness and deafness. Which means the one struggling with the disease is almost always the last to recognize it. If you think you might have some signs of pride, get help. Find an honest and fearless friend who will tell you the truth. Photo by Baylee Gramling on Unsplash
All these questions will he alluded to in the video. As well as an opportunity to engage live in a BRAND NEW teaching from this idea in DFW. Join us? Who or what controls your choices, your will, your wants? This question has so many layers that most people write it off and don’t dare dig in. Others consider the question a religious question and won’t address it for that reason. Finally, there are those who never ask the question at all and will never be able to find the answer. The toughest leadership question I have ever asked was the one I asked myself first. “What do you want?” I challenge you to ask that question on every level and facet of your life and don’t stop asking until you have an answer. Photo by Alex Holyoake on Unsplash WHY DON’T MY FRIENDS LIKE ME ANYMORE?!?!? The answer? Relational Resonance. When you begin to understand new ideas, concepts and paradigms you transform the way you think as well as the things you think about. This transformation grows more obvious everyday through your conversations, your priorities, your ambitions and your goals. People who once shared your same lower level needs have a hard time perceiving what is now most important to you. They no longer share your interests, your fascinations and your passions. This happens from grade school to high school to university to career paths and sometime happens inside a committed relationship or marriage. If your relationships have been strained lately, please ask yourself: “Who is out growing whom? And should I do anything about it?” Photo by Djim Loic on Unsplash It’s not just what you learn but who you learn it from. Consider the source!!

Insuperable Vision Workshop - Audio Download with worksheets Day after day I meet people who are struggling just to make ends meet. They are adrift in this vast sea of humanity holding on to their job, their family, their home, and their car with all they've got. They see their life experiences and education as the last hope to find their purpose and identity. They gather, fill and stuff all the money they can into every opportune investment. Yet they are empty, frustrated, angry and just plain fed up. We have all experienced that moment; when we find yourself stuck in traffic, yelling at random strangers to do what they wish they could... but can't... GO! The idea that life can be better than it is today is like the flame of a candle fighting for all its worth to stand against the tempest. We all want a better life. Even when life is good, we want more. That idea, that flame, is the hope that lives in the hearts and minds of all of us. Should that flame be extinguished, hope itself may well go with it. It is the rut of hopelessness that traps many would be shining stars and buries that glow from the sight of the world. It is the rut of hopelessness that extinguishes that flame. Lives that would have been a beacon to the wandering are lost at sea themselves. Inspirations of success that would have been the voices crying out to all who suffer are hidden away in their own stale lives, they cannot share who they are or what the world needs from them. It is my passion to help you find your purpose. I want to see you become successful, but more than that to be free! Without vision people perish. Without vision, we seem to be lost, mind numb robots following the herd into the abyss that is everyday life. We do not live intentionally without a vision for our future. We do not live passionately without a vision for our future. We do not live productively without a vision for our future. We certainly cannot lead without a vision for our future and a vision for the future of those we lead. This audio course will inspire and instruct you to create a vision which will become a significant driving force in your life. Author
