​Three Reasons StoryPower Is The Best Teacher

1. NO ONE KNOWS IT ALL
The best teachers, most educated professors and loftiest of religious leaders are still limited in their capacity to know everything there is to know. Can I prove it? Sure. When you need a root canal, do you call a venerated neonatal heart surgeon? When your car is running poorly, won’t start or wobbles and shakes when you drive over 40 mph, do you call a Priest or Rabbi? I am guessing your answer is NO! Not because you do not love for them and respect their knowledge, education and accomplishments but because they are not EXPERIENCED in the solution of your problem or in the current area of your need.

Asking for help from the wrong source is equally dangerous to trusting any one source for all of your information.

2. FAILURE IS A PHENOMENAL TEACHER
I have failed at too many things in life to mention. For a long period of my life I allowed those failures to be more than incidences in my life. Failure became my identity. It took a great deal of soul searching and researching, reading, and observing to come to the realization that very few, if any, greatly successful people in life went from the womb to well known without trials and troubles. It also became my observation that many of the small accomplishments I have seen in my own life followed the “redo” of a disastrous mistake or failure. It also seemed to be a common theme for those whose success I admired, they too had failed, over and over and over.

Do you know that a .300 batting average is consider pretty good in the MLB? In fact the highest batting average for a rookie ever recorded was Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1911 with a batting average of .408. Let me simplify that. HE MISSED 60% of the time!!! Six out of ten times, he did not accomplish his mission and yet he is a record holder. You can learn from failure, if you allow it to teach you. No one is without mistake or failure. No one gets it right every time. You won’t either. Learning from others such as mentors and leaders around you will shorten the distance you have to travel toward failure and flatten your curve to success.

The real question is this: “Will you allow your tragedies and triumphs to direct your life by adding them to your learning journey?”

3. STORYPOWER BRINGS THE WISDOM OF EXPERIENCE TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE
The ability to transfer to those you care about the wisdom gained through hard lessons, verified by others and documented for all to avoid is the work of #storypower. Selecting and Crafting Stories which are concise, easy to follow, actionable and profound is a learned art form. I am sure you have sat through someone sharing what they read in a book only to look it up later and find they quoted it wrong. I have been guilty myself of misquoting someone else’s research in the past. I am much more diligent now - although not perfect. I am sure you have also listened to someone regale the crowd with fanciful stories which in the end do nothing more than consume time. Hopefully they are at least amusing and entertaining. Nothing is worse than an extra long, pointless story which is also boring. Especially if you’re meant to learn the details for a test.

An art form I have strived to perfect is crafting my stupid mistakes and moments of learned experience into a story which is memorable and entertaining enough to capture and keep the attention and imagination of the listener. On the vehicle of that story rides a lesson in which I have found success after much trial and error.

One of my primary purposes in life is to equip as many people as possible with this StoryPower skill set and teaching tool before I die.

I challenge leaders of every level to pursue opportunities to engage those around them with wisdom from their own failures and successes.
