WHAT DOES EQUAL OPPORTUNITY MEAN TO YOU?

1. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY MEAN FAIRNESS
Fairness is when the same rules apply to everyone. Fairness is when no one has an advantage based on arbitrary and uncontrollable circumstances. Fairness is not a guarantee in life. In fact, nature itself does not demonstrate fairness as the homeostasis in the universe. The weakest water buffalo gets eaten. The least heat resistant plants die in the sun. The fish searching for an easy meal gets hooked. The micro organisms which adapt most quickly, survive the longest. Those born with exceptional height and great agility thrive at basketball, shorter, slower less coordinated people like myself choose something else to do.

In the course of human engagement, fairness requires concerted effort. Fairness in society, fairness in business, fairness in sports always demands the attention of the rule makers, the game crafters and the boundaries when they are established. 

2. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY MEANS JUST DECISIONS
Because fairness demands concerted effort, those who make the rules, design the systems, build the frameworks of society must be diligent and vigilant to consider all of the players in the game. Banking rules have failed in fairness. Voting rules have failed in fairness. Legal rules have failed in fairness. All of these rules, boundaries, and definitions must be reconsidered before equal opportunity means just decisions. 

3. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY MEANS EFFORT EQUAL RESULTS
When the playing field is leveled, the rules apply equally and do not change to benefit one team or another, no one is cheating the system or cheating each other then equal opportunity is most evident in the outcomes. When the rules are fair, the game is fair and everyone is playing by the same rules, the advantage goes to the most skilled, the most talented, the most disciplined, the most practiced. In other words, the ones who make the most effort, see the greatest results.

For too long, the game has been rigged. The game makers from bankers to politicians have "set up the system" to make sure they could plan, predict or even straight up control the outcome. It's true in my beloved America, it is true in DRCongo, it is true in Cuba, it was true in Rome, it was true in Babylon. Almost every ancient society and culture reveals the corruption of the hearts of humans. 

I believe AWARENESS IS KEY. If you see an opportunity which is rigged against you, speak up. If you an opportunity that is rigged in your favor and simultaneously cheats someone else, speak up. If you are in a position to influence, impact or make the rules, SPEAK UP. If you are fed up with not seeing a fair game, the rules flaunted or flagrantly disregarded, get in the game and make the changes you see need to be made.
