”It’s nothing new under the sun. We have heard it all our lives. “If you can’t say something nice, then say nothing at all.” For the most part, decent people try to hold their tongues when the urge to say something hurtful, cruel, demeaning and destructive wells up inside them... EXCEPT WHEN THEY ARE TALKING TO THEMSELVES! That’s why StoryPower is an inside job.” J Loren Norris ZUMBO JUST DESSERTS PROVES IT.
STORYPOWER IS AN INSIDE JOB! That’s why StoryPower is an inside job.” J Loren Norris STORYPOWER IS AN INSIDE JOB The encouragement we tend to offer others seems to be missing many times in our internal conversations. I know this for certain, I am my own five decade case study. For as long as I have been able to think, reason and talk, I have vacillated back and forth between verbose pride and self destructive self-talk. I have been halted in relationships by arrogance and an overblown ego and I have struggled with self hatred and low self esteem. I am sure no one else has experienced this journey... RIGHT?? STORYPOWER IS A LEADERSHIP TOOL The number of times I have encountered people in leadership roles, parenting roles and other positions of management or influence who are careless about how they speak to and about those they lead is truly mind boggling. I have witnessed parents, teachers, managers, even ministry and government leaders belittle those who are counting on them. From name calling to public humiliation it seems as if they believe the more they can crush the will of those they lead, the more power they have to exert. Nothing could be further from the truth! If leadership is about influence, then the positive influence which builds trust and safety goes a long way in the direction of loyalty, service and sacrifice. Words, stories, illustrations and examples which encourage, empower and embolden your team members will expand your influence and strengthen your team. In fact, IF THE STORY YOU TELL to make a point involves your team, IT BETTER BE POSITIVE! STORYPOWER IS A SALES TOOL Building rapport is as important in sales as it is in leadership or speaking from the stage. If you don’t build rapport, you don’t build trust. If you don’t build trust, you don’t close sales. Very few things disarm and lower the guard of a prospective client or customer like a true, authentic and vulnerable personal story. If you have done your research and homework, then you know enough about the company and the person you are meeting with to know where you might have common ground. The ability to select a story from an existing arsenal of stories which you have refined, rehearsed and prepared to deliver is like having a Swiss Army knife of rapport building tools. Being constantly at the ready with a story perfect for the moment is the perfect sales application of Storypower. STORYPOWER IS A TEAM TRAINING TOOL If you have ever trained a new team and found them more focused on their digital devices than your training, they may be distracted, and you may be boring. Let me go back to the power of stories. Well selected, well told, well placed stories will not only break up the monotony of dry training material, keep trainees engaged and demonstrate the more complicated aspectS you must deliver, it can also make you a more likable manager, owner or trainer. Investing the time and expense to become a better communicator is hands down the most important investment a business owner can make. Before the newest tools, gadgets techniques, or even marketing, a leader or business owner who invests in becoming a masterful communicator will see success in pretty much any industry with any sized team. STORYPOWER IS A COMMUNICATION TOOL The most common request I receive as a Public Speaking Coach is “help me write the speech that sells!” Ironically, this is an alarm bell in my mind. Immediately our relationship has shifted. Because I know the previous two points to be profoundly true and profoundly critical in the survival of the species, I am hesitant and proceed with caution. I also know that training someone to utilize the power of story selection, story crafting and storytelling when they are still dealing with unbridled ego and emotional wounds is tantamount to handing a sharpened broad sword to an angry five year old and expecting no negative consequences. Public speaking, leadership and influence all go hand in hand. The marketer who promises to “make you famous”, “get you on stages”, or “create your celebrity brand” without concern for the condition, maturity, responsibility and mental well being of the speaker they are selling a program to simply doesn’t grasp the gravity of the situation. In my opinion, they are sales mercenaries. They will TAKE ANYONE’S MONEY. Many are fine with a “money back guarantee” because by the time the person realizes
MOMENT OF AUTHENTIC TRANSPARENCY There are hundreds of public speakers who have mastered the “business of public speaking” better than I have. They have the sales funnels, high ticket sales, packed arenas to the rafters and spoken to millions. I am slow in those areas, intentionally. I am well aware of the damage done by rushing to the stage with a “sellable message.” I am also much more passionate about seeing true transformation in those I train for leadership, personal development and communication skills. I hold myself accountable for the development of the speaker, before the creation of the speech. If you desire to master the many facets of StoryPower in your life in order to bring hope and inspiration to others, I would love to talk to you about the path to Transforming Stories and Transforming Lives. If you are looking for the quickest route to the stage, becoming a overnight celebrity, hiring a marketing guru or a booking agent, they are all over social media. Happy hunting. Insuperable Vision Workshop - Audio Download with worksheets Day after day I meet people who are struggling just to make ends meet. They are adrift in this vast sea of humanity holding on to their job, their family, their home, and their car with all they've got. They see their life experiences and education as the last hope to find their purpose and identity. They gather, fill and stuff all the money they can into every opportune investment. Yet they are empty, frustrated, angry and just plain fed up. We have all experienced that moment; when we find yourself stuck in traffic, yelling at random strangers to do what they wish they could... but can't... GO! The idea that life can be better than it is today is like the flame of a candle fighting for all its worth to stand against the tempest. We all want a better life. Even when life is good, we want more. That idea, that flame, is the hope that lives in the hearts and minds of all of us. Should that flame be extinguished, hope itself may well go with it. It is the rut of hopelessness that traps many would be shining stars and buries that glow from the sight of the world. It is the rut of hopelessness that extinguishes that flame. Lives that would have been a beacon to the wandering are lost at sea themselves. Inspirations of success that would have been the voices crying out to all who suffer are hidden away in their own stale lives, they cannot share who they are or what the world needs from them. It is my passion to help you find your purpose. I want to see you become successful, but more than that to be free! Without vision people perish. Without vision, we seem to be lost, mind numb robots following the herd into the abyss that is everyday life. We do not live intentionally without a vision for our future. We do not live passionately without a vision for our future. We do not live productively without a vision for our future. We certainly cannot lead without a vision for our future and a vision for the future of those we lead. This audio course will inspire and instruct you to create a vision which will become a significant driving force in your life. Author
