Expectations change the way your brain works. Attitude = thoughts + emotion. When you face a day with known obstacles, your ability to envision success will crucial. Many people will allow the obstacles to cause negativity, discouragement, frustration, and anxiety. If you CHOOSE these toxic thoughts and corresponding emotions, your brain will be filled with numerous toxic hormones and chemicals all day. If you face the tough obstacles of the day with the attitude “This is a great opportunity to learn something.” You have chosen to manage your expectations and your emotions. You have chosen to require your brain. The chemicals in your brain which affect breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and over all brain functions will be healthy rather than toxic. You must choose your attitude. FINISH STRONG This is one season of the year when it gets real easy to get real lazy. It’s easy to see a few weeks bookended by holidays and believe “no one else is working” so I can enjoy the Holiday parties and short work days with skeleton crews and catch up with my new year resolutions. It’s also a season of lighter competition, minimal “heavy lifting” and a great opportunity to forge new relationships and new deals because no one else is really working. Make that sales call. Put out that new proposal. Put in a few extra hours on that book while things are quiet. Use this lull as a chance to draft past your competition and accelerate into the next year. Don’t lose momentum. Gain ground. Finish strong. LEAD WITH “THEM” IN MIND It’s hard to know who you will influence outside your knowledge. Leaders always have a group of people in mind to influence, an avatar, an ideal client or immediate subordinates. What we often miss is the reach of influence outside of our intended audience. Those people who are watching when we thought everyone was ignoring us. Those people whose lives may be forever changed by a few words we have said or things we have done. He spoke about managing conflict with difficult people, and how to use various leadership styles and gifts to navigate difficult situations in the board room. I learned a great deal from him, and hoped to have the chance to share his insight back home. Last year, I had the chance to plan a weekend retreat for our State Board of Directors, and invited Mr. Norris out to spend the weekend in the mountains and woods of North Georgia to offer intense training on leadership styles, and conflict management. It was a very necessary training and a very productive weekend. His insight into the various personalities and issues after only spending a short time with us was astounding!! I highly recommend his leadership training for any size group experiencing difficulties with moving their mission forward because of personal conflict between Board Members would benefit from his experience and help!"
